This was a very large, long-term project using osCommerce as a base. The core code was heavily modified to customize attribute handling and automated order processing. The standard osC attribute system simply would not suffice for a store having over 40,000 products and well over 200,000 attribute combinations. The insufficiencies are especially challenging when the inventory supplier is providing semi-hourly, XML inventory updates in which products and attributes are handled using a completely different methodology.
Stepping up to the challenge, we customized virtually every aspect of the stock osCommerce shopping cart. Customer orders are sent directly to an off-site fulfillment facility via an XML interface, and order status updates are provided nightly by the fulfillment facility. Order updates include courier tracking information, as well as actual shipping costs. All automated features and updates are subject to override from within the osCommerce admin.
Halloween Express also operates over 200 franchise locations worldwide. A specialized store locater system was created, and franchisees have the ability to directly edit their location information, including store hours. Franchisees also have a dedicated gateway to download promotional materials for their own marketing devices.
